While a Doula cannot promise, determine, or guarantee outcomes, research has consistently shown that Doulas significantly impact births for women in many positive ways. In fact, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says this about Doulas: “Evidence suggests that, in addition to regular nursing care, continuous one-to-one emotional support provided by support personnel, such as a Doula, is associated with improved outcomes for women in labor. Benefits found in randomized trials include shortened labor, decreased need for analgesia, fewer operative deliveries, and fewer reports of dissatisfaction with the experience of labor. As summarized in a Cochrane evidence review, a woman who received continuous support was less likely to have a cesarean delivery or a newborn with a low 5-minute Apgar score. Continuous support for a laboring woman that is provided by a non-medical person also has the modest positive effect on shortening the duration of labor and improving the rate of spontaneous vaginal birth.”

I have become very passionate about taking care of and loving pregnant woman. I respect and honor the gift and miracle of being able to reproduce. My work in the birth world stemmed from another one of my passions Massage Therapy. I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 2016. In 2018 I had the opportunity to become nationally certified in prenatal massage. During this time I worked full time as a retail manager and wanted to focus more on prenatal massage but I was not sure I would be able to afford to leave my current career. One night during one of the services of class, I asked god for a sign. I wanted to know if I was supposed to leave my job and do massage full time. Thirty Minutes after that I received a message to report to work in the morning for a mandatory meeting. Upon arriving the next day I learned that the company I worked for was closing our building. I took this as my sign… I fell in love with birth and soon to be mommies. From learning prenatal massage I decided to become a Doula. I have loved every moment of it. I feel truly honored that my clients have allowed me to be a part of their special experience. From then on I combined my two loves and formed Doulassage…
